URBAN ROOM
2019
Urban Room - University of Reading
Urban Room is a timber pavilion designed by Invisible Studio, engineered by Corbett and Tasker and built by the architecture students of the Reading University led by the specialist timber contractor Xylotek.
It is has been designed on the principle of the Belfast truss, a traditional construction technique to build strong trusses with reasonably sized elements.
In spring/summer 2019 it hosted several events involving the students including the end of year show.
Working for Corbett & Tasker structural engineers, my main tasks included the detail design of the 4 truss walls and all timber to timber connections. This has been carried out through hand sketches, CAD drawings and localized FEM models for the steel brackets.
