CHELSEA HARBOUR CHRISTMAS TREE

Chelsea Harbour Christmas Tree
In December 2018 Corbett and Tasker were appointed by S2 Events to advise on the construction and installation of a temporary steel structure in the shape of a Christmas tree to be erected at the Chelsea Harbour Design Centre, London.
The 6m high cone-like shape is formed by multiple sections bolted together. All the steelwork is made by 30x30 Square Hollow Sections and after being completed with festive decorations the tree has been rigged with steel cables to the top of the central dome.
At Corbett and Tasker, my main task consisted of a general structural assessment of the steelwork including bolted and welded joints, rigging points and general stability of the installation. This resulted in a simple strengthening system using concealed steel wires and an improved strategy to ensure the redundancy of the rigging points for added safety.
