Charity cardboard bridge building contest

1st prize for the tallest bridge, honourable mention for "creativity and beauty"

 

This cardboard bridge is the result of a fundraising event held in the main square of the city of Bologna by a local charity helping young students who suffered injuries while doing sports. 

The bridge is made out of 7x80x1000 mm cardboard stripes, hot glue and synthetic cord. No other materials are allowed and any constraint to the ground is forbidden; the time for construction is limited to 6 hours. 

As engineering students, my team and I took the contest quite seriously and we came up with a solution that takes advantage of the arch coupled with a T-shaped cross-section.
